| Training of a mountain rescue
team is very important and unfortunately
requires finance to keep members up to date with
techniques, not only in technical ropework
skills, but communication, search techniques and
most importantly first aid and casualty care.
Here is an insight into our training. Copies of
the current and previous Training Programmes are
available to view.
All members are trained in basic skills of rope-work, first aid, radio communications and search procedures to a national standard set by the Mountain Rescue Committee of Scotland. This training is either done locally by using the skills within the team or at outdoor centres using professional outdoor specialists. Training is constantly updated with the latest techniques. Training takes place regularly with meetings taking place twice a month throughout the year. Weather and darkness has very little impact on training as most incidents we deal with are either at night or in poor weather conditions. All training is recorded against each member and open to inspection by any organisation that uses us. The training undertaken by the Team ensures that we can cope with any search or rescue situation on steep ground. The team have developed techniques is raising and lowering stretchers on near vertical slopes, setting up rope-ways across gullies and rivers, providing evacuation for casualties in difficult situations. Confidence on steep ground is very important with the Team relying on individual skills of team members. |
