Membership

Membership of the team at present is by initial application and thereafter by invite. A new member serves as a probationer to enable them to see how they fit in with all of the different aspects of mountain rescue, including the fund raising, and to let the members see how the new member fits in. Technical ability is not necessarily the main reason someone gets membership.

Members are all volunteers, from many different backgrounds and different occupations. We have builders, storeman, labourers, outdoor pursuit instructors, salesmen, engineers, police officers, doctors, firemen, lecturers, process workers, just to name a few. There are currently 40 members including probationers and 20 associate members who were once full call-out members.

The Ochils Mountain Rescue Team consists of a number of voluntary members who are on 24/7:365 callout standby. Contact is by way of a pager system and members can be called to assist with just about anything to do with missing or injured people.

Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in mountain rescue. We are not a club, but a rescue service who have to train on a regular basis to maintain professional standards. We are all volunteers and receive no payment for our involvement in rescue work.
