1. Winter Training near Grantown on Spey, where we receive expert instruction and training in winter conditions. We usually spend the weekend refreshing our personal skills and our rescue skills in the Northern Corries of the Cairngorm's. Training takes the form of professional guidance from local mountain skills instructors, on this occasion with Peter Cliffe.
2. Joint training with the Lomond & Killin MRT's. There are three mountain rescue teams in the Central Scotland area. By holding joint training exercises we are in a position to train with each other and in the respective areas, therefor being in a position to assist each other when needed. The three teams work well together and form the Central Scotland Mountain Rescue Group. The local representative of the Search and Rescue Dogs Association (SARDA) and the police meet with the three teams twice a year to discuss mountain rescue provision in the Central Scotland Police area.
3. On exercise with the Royal Navy SAR Unit. Twice a year the team train with the military Search and Rescue units from either the Royal Navy or the Royal Air Force. Team members have to know the safety drills for getting on and off Sea King Helicopters, both in summer and winter. This also involves being winched in and out of the aircraft whilst hovering above the ground.
4. Four Team members undergoing training with the RAF are boarding the aircraft to be airlifted to the summit of one of the hills in the Ochils for a search of the plateau. Once on board they will be seated and a team leader will liase with the Pilot, giving him a dropping zone.
5. Willie Miller, Team Leader, co-ordinating a search from the Team Land Rover which acts as a communications base.
