The team:

The call-out list currently numbers 28 local volunteers from a variety of backgrounds including stalkers, crofters, fishermen, fish- farm workers, a mechanic, teachers, and employees of major land-owners in the area particularly Scottish Natural Heritage and the National Trust for Scotland.

The Team Leader, Neil Hinchliff, works for the Scottish Youth Hostel Association at Torridon which also houses the main Mountain Rescue post. Subsidiary posts are located at the SNH office at Kinlochewe, and at Achnashellach.

Members receive regular training in skills such as first aid, navigation, rope-work, working with helicopters, and winter mountaineering. Within the team we have a variety of skills including search and rescue dog handlers, emergency medical technicians, mountain leaders and a mountain instructor.
